November 4th of this year marks something historic in America’s history, the presidential election. Voting Day has come for citizens to line up for hours at a time and cast their votes on either traditonal paper ballots or newer electronical ballot called the Direct-Recording Electronic machines. With the newly introduced DREs voting should be a breeze right? Wrong! Key states with a notable electoral college vote are having troubles with the DREs with their malfucntions from crashing to just plain not working. In these key states, the electic ballot machines began to fail and the polls had to bring out limited emergencey paper ballots, some states ran out of those as early as 9:30am before they had to make extra copies. As a result of the time consuming wait, many voters became fustrated and left their lines for the polls and didn’t vote. Perhaps next year, the polling stations will be more prepared for instances like this.
